Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma faces a potential two-year ban after a video surfaced showing him inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, following a preseason match against Bayern Munich on Saturday.
Bissouma has since apologized, saying, “I want to apologize for these videos. This was a severe lack of judgment. I understand the seriousness of this issue and the associated health risks, and I also take my responsibilities as a footballer and role model very seriously.”
In the UK, nitrous oxide is classified as a Class C drug, and its recreational use has been illegal since 2023, with a maximum penalty of two years in prison.
The 27-year-old Bissouma made 124 appearances for Brighton before joining Tottenham in 2022, where he has played 56 times. He has also been capped 37 times by Mali since making his national debut in 2015.
