Breel Embolo opened the scoring, putting Switzerland ahead in the 75th minute. However, England equalized just ten minutes later.
The match extended to extra time and was ultimately decided by a penalty shootout after 120 minutes with no winner.
Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji missed Switzerland’s first penalty, while England converted all their spot-kicks. The Three Lions are through to the semifinals and will face the winner of the match between the Netherlands and Turkey.
