Governor Babagana Zulum has reassured residents of Borno State of his administration’s determination to strengthen security and continue the resettlement of communities displaced by insurgency as Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
In a goodwill message released on Wednesday through his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, the governor extended warm greetings to Muslims across the state and urged them to uphold the spirit of sacrifice exemplified by Prophet Abraham.
Zulum, who is currently observing pilgrimage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, said the Eid celebration should inspire Muslims to show compassion to the needy while promoting peace, tolerance and unity among citizens.
The governor reaffirmed his government’s commitment to maintaining stability in Borno, especially in communities that have been resettled after years of insurgency.
“We will continue to work very closely with the military and other security agencies as well as volunteer forces to ensure peace and tranquility prevail in our communities. My administration’s commitment to security is second to none,” the governor said.
He also pledged that his administration would intensify efforts aimed at restoring more displaced communities and improving the livelihoods of vulnerable residents through empowerment programmes.
“I want to assure you that more communities will be resettled before the end of our administration, Insha Allah (God-willing).
“We will continue to roll out empowerment initiatives to vulnerable and displaced persons to become productive members of society,” Zulum said.
The governor further assured residents that all ongoing developmental projects across the state would receive the needed attention before the expiration of his tenure.
Zulum also praised members and leaders of the All Progressives Congress for conducting peaceful primary elections across Borno, describing the exercise as a reflection of unity within the party.
“The recently conducted primary election by our great political party, the APC, from the state constituency to the presidential level, demonstrated unity and solidarity among aspirants, leaders, and members without any rancour, underscoring cohesion in the party,” Zulum said.
He urged citizens to continue praying for lasting peace and stability in both Borno State and Nigeria at large.
