Fast-rising Nigerian gospel singer and broadcaster Yaks Aruwa has identified what he describes as a weak connection with the Holy Spirit as one of the key factors limiting the growth and full potential of some gospel artistes in northern Nigeria.
Speaking on The News Chronicle’s, Celebrity Connect, the Kaduna-based singer said many talented gospel acts in the region are yet to fully break through due to a combination of spiritual, structural, and industry challenges.

He also lamented the poor recognition given to pioneering gospel figures in northern Nigeria, noting that many of them laid the foundation for today’s emerging artists but remain largely uncelebrated.
According to him, inadequate financial support remains a major setback for gospel musicians, particularly those operating outside mainstream commercial structures.
“In northern Nigeria, most people in ministry struggle a lot. Beyond faith-related challenges, there are also barriers that limit opportunities that should ordinarily come, but simply because you bear the name of Jesus Christ, they don’t.” He added.
Aruwa, however, reaffirmed his commitment to growth, saying he intends to continue evolving with the times while sharpening his craft and building a stronger artistic identity.
