Suspected bandits on Sunday evening attacked Gandi community in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing more than 10 farmers and injuring several others.
According to reports obtained by The News Chronicle, the attackers arrived in the community in large numbers, estimated to be more than 100 armed men.
Sources said the bandits carried out the attack as a revenge mission, following the reported killing of some of their members by Nigerian Army troops during recent military operations.
The attackers were said to have told residents that they would not stop their attacks, claiming that the assault was in retaliation for the loss of their members.
The invasion threw the community into panic as residents fled to safety while the bandits carried out the deadly attack.
The number of casualties may rise as details of the incident continue to emerge. Authorities and security agencies are yet to officially comment on the attack as of the time of filing this report.
