Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have inflicted heavy casualties on Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists following a failed infiltration attempt on military positions along Dutsen Kura and Chara Road in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Friday, June 19, 2026, at the strategic military locations situated along the Biu-Buni Yadi-Damaturu road, an area that has witnessed repeated cases of kidnappings.
Security sources confirmed the development to The News Chronicle in Maiduguri, stating that the alert troops, backed by actionable intelligence, swiftly detected the terrorists’ movement and responded with overwhelming firepower in a coordinated air and ground counter-offensive.
According to the source, ISWAP fighters launched multiple attacks on troops’ positions at Dutsen Kura and Chara Road in Buratai. However, the troops, supported by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, repelled the assault.
“The prompt and effective deployment of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance assets, as well as precision strike platforms of the Nigerian Air Force, proved decisive. The seamless integration of air and ground forces disrupted the terrorists’ attack and inflicted heavy casualties on them, forcing the insurgents to retreat in disarray,” the source said.
The source further disclosed that no casualties were recorded among the troops, while the terrorists suffered significant losses in both personnel and equipment.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring that Operation HADIN KAI would sustain aggressive operations aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities and restoring lasting peace across the North-East.
The latest success, according to the source, highlights the high level of combat readiness of OPHK troops and the effective synergy between the ground and air components in maintaining sustained pressure on terrorist elements.
