Good morning! In today’s trending news stories;

1. Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the swift employment of 1000 teaching interns in Ogun State to commemorate the 2023 World Teachers’ Day. The governor also ordered the release of teachers’ promotion letters for 2021-2022, a two-month leave bonus for public servants, and an additional 10,000 naira relief for public servants and pensioners in the state. However, alongside these measures, he emphasized that his administration is currently overseeing the training of 750 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) teachers to modernize teaching methods. Moreover, the state governor announced an upcoming education summit involving stakeholders in the educational sector. During the summit, participants will discuss workable solutions aimed at enhancing the sector and achieving ‘the desired excellence’ across schools in the state.

2. The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, declined Atiku Abubakar’s request. During an International Press Conference held in Abuja on Thursday, Atiku, the PDP presidential candidate, invited him and Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) to join his fight for justice regarding the election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Atiku accused Tinubu of forging the certificate he submitted to INEC and stated that he plans to use CSU’s academic records in his Supreme Court case against the president.

3. The troops of Operation Safe Haven arrested approximately 91 suspects during Operation Hakorin Damisa IV. These suspects have connections to various crimes, including kidnapping University of Jos students, the Takania village attack, farm destruction, armed robbery, drug trafficking, and livestock theft. These operations took place from September 25 to October 4, 2023. Items recovered include an AK-47 rifle loaded with 12 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The security force assures the general public that they will apprehend the criminals and bring them to court.

4. The revelations by President Putin have caused tension in Russia’s already tense atmosphere. The Russian leader attributed Yevgeny Prigozhin’s death to an internal plane crash, dispelling missile rumors, citing explosives found in victims’ bodies.

5. 20-year-old Jarell Quansah has received his first-ever invitation to join England U21s. The center-back delivered an outstanding 90-minute performance against Union SG on Thursday night and has played in five Reds’ matches. Along with his colleague Harvey Elliott, he will be playing for England’s games against Serbia at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground on October 12 and Ukraine in Slovakia on October 16.

6. Owodunni Ibrahim, known as Primeboy, has emerged as the major suspect in the investigation of the death of Mohbad. He turned himself in on Thursday after a 1 million naira bounty was placed on him by the police force. Alleging that the police falsely denied inviting him for questioning. Primeboy claimed the late rapper’s wife framed him, denying his presence near the rapper’s death. He was asked to leave Mohbad’s car for a private conversation with his wife.

7. Nigerian singer Tems, an award-winner, returns with the soulful single ‘Me & U’ after a brief 2021 break. The song explores genres of faith and self-discovery. The music video was directed by Tems herself and was filmed in Malta. It marks her first solo release in 2023.
