NPFL clubs to receive 60% share of new $7.5m sponsorship deal

Nigerian domestic football is set to receive a shot in the arm financially as the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) secures a new $7.5 million title sponsorship deal ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The three-year agreement with EUROMATCH is worth $2.5 million per year, with the NPFL chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, confirming that 60 percent of the proceeds will go directly to the participating clubs.

The move is expected to improve club finances, players’ welfare and wages while making the league more attractive to investors and sponsors.

Elegbeleye said the league’s priority is to put its players at the center of its growth rather than its administrators.

“We want the world to know our players. Let our league be known. Those of us behind the scenes, let our work reflect,” he said.

The News Chronicle reports that the deal is seen as part of efforts to make the Nigerian Premier Football League more commercially viable.

The former sports minister, Sunday Dare, said the agreement indicated that viewing sports as a business attracted investment in the sport.

NFF president Ibrahim Gusau said that the deal would create more opportunities for clubs and players.

EUROMATCH Group chairman Sadi Semih said his company saw the partnership as an investment in Nigerian football and its development at the international level.

Former Super Eagles stars Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Austin Eguavoen and Brown Ideye were at the unveiling ceremony in Abuja.
