Tinubu Nominates Lamido Yuguda as Deputy Governor of CBN

—

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the nomination of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), pending confirmation by the Senate.

The appointment, made under Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, comes on the heels of the previous Deputy Governor, Bala Bello, being appointed Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.

In a statement made available to The News Chronicle, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, the President urged the new appointees to approach their roles with professionalism, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s economic stability and growth.

Yuguda, who served as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2020 to 2024, brings decades of experience in banking and finance. An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, he earned a B.Sc. in Accountancy in 1983, followed by a master’s degree in Money, Banking, and Finance from the University of Birmingham in 1991.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a CFA charterholder. His career began at the CBN in 1984 as a Senior Supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department. He later worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund’s Africa Department from 1997 to 2001 before returning to the CBN, where he retired in 2016 as Director of the Reserve Management Department.
