Tom Holland Becomes Hollywood’s Highest-Grossing Actor at Age 30

Tom Holland is now the highest-grossing lead actor in box office history. The 30-year-old British star passed Zoe Saldaña this weekend, reaching a career total of $15.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales.

Two films carried him past the mark: Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, both still running in theaters.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day added $27.4 million worldwide over the weekend, lifting its total to $2.452 billion. That makes it the third highest-grossing film ever released. In North America, the film needs roughly $18.9 million more to pass Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the top domestic earner of all time.

The Odyssey brought in another $34.4 million worldwide, bringing its global total to $1.68 billion. Universal Pictures has confirmed the film as the studio’s highest-grossing release ever, and the highest-grossing R-rated film in history.

Holland’s new total edges out Saldaña’s $15.468 billion, a mark she had held since January, when she passed Scarlett Johansson’s $15.401 billion. Samuel L. Jackson ($14.6 billion), Robert Downey Jr. ($14.3 billion) and Chris Pratt ($14.1 billion) round out the top six.

Tom Holland’s rise up the list has been unusually quick. He sat sixth as recently as August, with a career total near $13.6 billion. In little more than a month, he cleared Pratt, Jackson, Downey Jr. and Johansson before reaching the top spot. Downey Jr. mentored Holland’s Peter Parker as Iron Man across five Marvel Cinematic Universe films, making that particular milestone notable to longtime fans of the franchise.

The record arrives inside a record summer for the industry. The U.S. box office from May 1 to September 7, 2026, reached $4.76 billion, edging past the previous high of $4.756 billion set in 2013. Universal led all studios with $1.23 billion in the period, with The Odyssey accounting for nearly half of that figure. Sony crossed $1 billion, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day making up 93 percent of that total.

The rankings are not adjusted for inflation and count only lead roles. Samuel L. Jackson and the late Stan Lee would rank higher if supporting and cameo appearances were included, given their extensive Marvel appearances across the franchise.

Tom Holland made his film debut in The Impossible in 2012 and first played Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. He is married to actress Zendaya.
