Obudu Cattle Ranch is located on a high plateau at about 1,500+ metres above sea level, giving it a “floating above the world” feeling with mist and cool air.

Before becoming a tourist destination, it was created in 1951 as a cattle breeding ranch by Scottish settlers.

A Scottish rancher, McCaughley, explored the mountains in 1949 and realized the cool climate could support livestock farming.

Unlike most of Nigeria’s tropical heat, Obudu enjoys a semi-temperate mountain climate, making it feel like a different country entirely.

The ranch is located in Cross River State, near the Nigeria–Cameroon border, adding to its isolated mountain feel.

The road to the top is full of sharp bends and steep climbs, making the journey almost as famous as the destination.

A cable car was introduced to help visitors glide up the mountain and enjoy aerial views of the landscape.

Beyond the views, the ranch area includes waterfalls, dense forests, and nature trails that feel untouched.

One of its attractions is the Becheve Nature Reserve canopy walk, where visitors walk high above the forest floor.

Today, it has evolved into Obudu Mountain Resort, hosting tourists, conferences, lodges, and even mountain events.
