Speed Darlington Won’t Beg Burna Boy to Drop Charges, Says Lawyer

The legal representative of singer Speed Darlington, Stan Alieke, has made it clear that his client will not beg Burna Boy to drop the charges against him.

Speed Darlington was arrested and spent two months in jail after Burna Boy filed a defamation case against him.

However, following his release, his lawyer emphasized that they would not be seeking a court settlement by begging the Afrobeat star.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Alieke stated that the case should be handled as a civil matter, where the court would decide on damages and financial compensation, without police involvement.

He said, “Akpi (Speed Darlington) will never beg Burna Boy, and we won’t support him if he does. He wouldn’t even agree if we advised him to do so. The matter is now in court, and it’s up to the court to decide if he truly defamed Burna Boy or not.”

Alieke further explained that begging would imply that Speed Darlington is pleading guilty. Instead, he believes Burna Boy should take the matter to court and let the legal system determine the damages.

He also pointed out that police involvement was unnecessary from the start, insisting that Speed Darlington should have been granted administrative bail when he was arrested.
