Snapchat has introduced new tools aimed at helping educators foster safer environments within schools by gaining a better understanding of student interactions on the app.Â
As part of this initiative, Snapchat unveiled a new website designed specifically for educators, offering resources to enhance their knowledge of the platform and how it can be used safely in an educational setting.
This move comes in response to growing concerns from lawmakers and mental health professionals regarding the safety of teens on social media platforms.
With more than 20 million teenagers in the U.S. actively using Snapchat, the platform is the third most popular app among this age group, according to a 2023 Pew study.
Snapchat’s latest efforts are a continuation of its commitment to safeguarding teens, with a particular focus on supporting educators.
The newly launched “Educator’s Guide to Snapchat” website provides detailed information on the app’s functionality and includes an array of safety tools. The site also offers downloadable materials that educators can distribute to parents or counselors, addressing online challenges such as bullying and sextortion.
In addition to the website, Snapchat has released a resource document that equips educators with strategies for promoting safe online practices and developing school policies for social media use.
The document also covers ways to address and prevent issues like sextortion.
Moreover, Snapchat has introduced a feedback form to allow educators to report how the app is being utilized in their schools and to offer suggestions directly to the platform.
