Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) has condemned the recent attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on communities in his senatorial district, including last Saturday’s assaults on Ashigashiya village in Gwoza Local Government Area and Kopul village in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
The attacks resulted in the death of a physically-challenged resident in Ashigashiya after terrorists reportedly set his home on fire.
Several residential houses were also burned, with food supplies and livestock looted. In Kopul village, no casualties were reported, but homes and shops were destroyed, forcing many residents to flee into nearby bush areas for safety.
Speaking to Reporters in Maiduguri on Sunday, Ndume expressed sympathy for the victims and called on the federal government to provide the military, police, and other security agencies with advanced weapons to end the insurgency.
He said, “Our Nigerian Armed Forces are doing their best in fighting Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, but they are handicapped in terms of weapons. There is an urgent need for the federal government to train, equip, arm and motivate our military forces. Our forces should have access to Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, fighter jets, and drones if we really want to end Boko Haram.”
Ndume also commended the efforts of the Nigerian military, Civilian Joint Task Force, hunters, and vigilantes for their commitment to the fight against terrorism.
He further praised the Cameroonian Forces for their swift response in repelling the Ashigashiya attack, preventing a potentially larger tragedy.
