One of the newest appointees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Desmond Akawor, has resigned from his position as the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.
His sudden resignation comes barely 24 hours into his appointment by the APC-led administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to serve as the new Federal Commissioner, representing Rivers State, of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission.
Akawor, who is the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Rivers State, resigned from his chairmanship position in a letter dated November 22, 2023. In the letter, he expressed gratitude for having been given the opportunity to serve as the PDP Chairman in Rivers State since 2020, adding that all duties have been handed over to the Deputy Party Chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka, who will now serve as the new Party Chairman in the state.
Recall that a statement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday, November 22, 2023, approved the appointment of Desmond Akawor as the new Federal Commissioner, representing Rivers State, of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission, pending confirmation by the Senate.
The appointment of former Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea comes a few weeks after the death of the immediate past RMAFC Federal Commissioner from Rivers State, Asondu Temple.
While the president implores the appointee to justify the confidence reposed in him, the Minister of State of the Federal Capital Territory and Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority expressed joy in his new appointment, adding that he remains thankful to the president for finding him worthy to serve in that capacity.
