In a significant show of support for victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative, has donated the sum of five hundred million naira to the Borno State Government.

This generous donation is intended to aid the state’s ongoing efforts in providing relief to those affected by the devastating floods.

The donation was presented during a formal ceremony held at the Borno State Government House on Wednesday.

Senator Tinubu, who serves as the chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative, was represented by Hajiya Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President and vice chairman of the initiative.

In her remarks, Hajiya Nana Shettima conveyed the deep condolences of the First Lady to the people of Borno, expressing sympathy for the immense losses suffered due to the natural disaster, which has severely impacted the lives, properties, and livelihoods of the affected residents.

Hajiya Shettima also emphasized that they were in Maiduguri at the express direction of Senator Oluremi Tinubu to offer solace to the victims and convey heartfelt sympathy on behalf of the initiative.

She reassured the people of Borno that although the disaster was a tragic occurrence, they should find comfort in knowing that it was the will of the Almighty.

In addition to expressing sympathy, Hajiya Nana Shettima commended the swift and effective response of the Borno State Government under the leadership of Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

She lauded the governor’s proactive efforts in addressing the immediate needs of the flood victims, ensuring that relief materials and support were delivered promptly.

In response, Professor Babagana Zulum expressed profound gratitude to the First Lady and the Renewed Hope Initiative for their support.

He acknowledged the importance of the donation, which will significantly bolster the state’s relief and recovery efforts. The governor expressed appreciation for the concern shown by Senator Oluremi Tinubu and praised the Renewed Hope Initiative for its commitment to alleviating the suffering of the people in times of crisis.

Following the formal proceedings, a cheque for five hundred million naira was handed over to the governor as part of the initiative’s contribution to relief efforts.

Earlier in the day, Hajiya Nana Shettima and her entourage paid a visit to the Shehu of Borno, His Eminence Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi, at his palace.

During their visit, they offered their condolences and solidarity with the people of Borno. The Shehu of Borno, in his response, emphasized the need for permanent measures to prevent future flooding and reduce the impact of such disasters on the community.

He expressed his appreciation for the visit and for the support provided by the Renewed Hope Initiative.

The donation from the Renewed Hope Initiative underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between federal and state governments, as well as humanitarian organizations, in addressing the challenges posed by natural disasters and providing timely assistance to those in need.
