Police intercept vehicle carrying political thugs in Yobe

The Police Command in collaboration with the Nigerian Army has reported intercepting an 18-seater bus carrying political thugs in Gashua Local Government Area. The thugs were allegedly on a mission to disrupt the electoral process in Damaturu.

According to DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Police Public Relations Officer, the military checkpoint intercepted the bus at around 0700hrs on 3rd February 2024.

The individuals on board were taken into custody for thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution to ascertain their involvement in the alleged plot.

Several suspects were apprehended, including Abu Bakar Garba Bololo (25), Habu Mato (35), Suleman Musa (50), Yusuf Danjuma (33), Abdullahi Haruna (45), Zanab Mohammed (25) of Unguwan Lawan, and Rachael Bitrus (23).

Additionally, seven other individuals believed to be part of a syndicate from Jakusko and Gashua Local Government Areas were also taken into custody.

The suspects claimed they were recruited as agents for one of the opposition parties. However, the investigation is ongoing to uncover the criminal implications of the matter.

In response to the incident, Commissioner CP Garba Ahmed emphasized the commitment of the Police and sister Security Agencies to ensure the security and safety of the electorate.

He called on the public to remain resolute, shun violence, and avoid thug-related activities.

The security forces have made comprehensive preparations to promptly respond to any unexpected deviation from the state of peace, ensuring a rapid and effective intervention in the event of any disturbance or disruption to the prevailing tranquility.

Their readiness involves a thorough and detailed planning process, encompassing various strategies and measures designed to address potential threats to peace and stability.

This proactive approach underscores their commitment to maintaining a secure environment and promptly mitigating any challenges that may arise, thereby safeguarding the overall well-being of the community.
