Otti Orders Second Phase of Renovation at Abia NYSC Orientation Camp

—

Gov. Alex Otti of Abia has directed the commencement of the second phase of renovation at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.

Otti gave the directive on Friday while declaring the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I orientation course for corps members deployed to the state open.

He said the second phase of the renovation would cover the course officials’ quarters, clinic, kitchen and other facilities, as well as the installation of additional solar-powered streetlights.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Nwaobilor Ananaba, the governor said his administration was focused on rebuilding infrastructure and strengthening institutions.

According to him, the efforts were aimed at laying the foundation for a functional state capable of meeting the needs of its citizens.

Otti assured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to their welfare, adding that payment of the enhanced state allowance had commenced.

“My administration remains committed to your welfare and creating an environment where you can serve effectively and contribute meaningfully,” he said.

The governor said the government had renovated corps members’ hostels, rehabilitated erosion-damaged internal roads and equipped the NYSC secretariat in Umuahia.

He urged the corps members to uphold their oath of allegiance and actively participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program.

Otti said the program would equip them with skills to promote self-reliance and reduce dependence on conventional employment.

He also directed local government council chairmen to reconstitute NYSC committees to strengthen coordination and support for corps members.

The governor described Abia as a state of commerce, industry and tourism, noting its hospitable people and attractions, including the Azumini Blue River.

He assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to their security throughout their service.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Alhaji Yunusa Tanimu, appealed to the state government to expedite the second phase of the camp’s renovation.

Tanimu also urged the government to urgently address emerging erosion threats within the orientation camp.

He commended Otti for approving the enhanced allowance for corps members and providing furniture and air conditioners for the NYSC secretariat.

The coordinator said the measures demonstrated the state government’s commitment to youth welfare and support for NYSC operations.

He said the orientation course was designed to instill discipline, teamwork and civic responsibility through drills, lectures and other activities.

Tanimu urged the corps members to regard the orientation program as preparation for leadership built on integrity, responsibility and self-discipline.

The oath of allegiance was administered to the corps members by the Abia Chief Judge, Justice Lilian Abai.

Abai was represented at the ceremony by Justice Benson Anya of the state High Court.
