The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has notified electricity consumers in Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, and Yobe states of a planned outage on the Jos–Gombe 330kV transmission line from April 9 to May 2.

According to a statement obtained by The News Chronicle on Thursday, the outage will take place every Thursday to Sunday between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to allow for the installation of Optical Ground Wire fibre optic infrastructure along the transmission corridor.

NISO explained that the upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to improve grid operations through enhanced Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Energy Management Systems (EMS), and telecommunications capabilities.

The improvements are expected to strengthen real-time monitoring, fault detection, load balancing, and overall power delivery across the affected region.

The operator added that electricity supply to the impacted states will be maintained through available 132kV transmission lines during the outage period.

However, customers may experience reduced power supply and service limitations due to network constraints and limited capacity on the alternative lines.

NISO also noted that it is working closely with stakeholders, including Jos and Yola Distribution Companies, as well as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), to ensure outages across feeders, distribution substations, and customer clusters are managed within the scheduled timeframe.

Upon completion, the project is expected to improve electricity reliability, enhance grid coordination, and deliver better load management across the northeastern states.
