The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said there is no law prohibiting him from owning property in the United States, while dismissing allegations linking him to houses in Florida as false.
Wike made the clarification on Monday during his monthly media chat in Abuja monitored by The News Chronicle, in response to claims by activist Omoyele Sowore.
He challenged Sowore to substantiate the allegations, noting that no evidence has been provided to support the claims.
“Sowore comes and sells all kinds of stories to you. Up till now, why hasn’t he talked about the houses he claims I have in Florida? Where is it till today? Those are the kind of people you say are human rights activists,” he said.
Wike warned against what he described as the peddling of unverified claims against public officials, stressing that such accusations were unfair and misleading.
“You can’t begin to peddle rumors against government officials; it’s not correct. There is no law that says I shouldn’t own a house anywhere. However, I don’t have a house there,” he added.
