Nigerian government plans to impose penalties on individuals who hoard food items

Food prices

The Nigerian government has said they will take strong actions to stop people from hoarding important food.

They want to punish anyone who does this. They are doing this because hoarding makes food prices go up all over the country.

Hoarding means collecting lots of food, especially grains, from markets across the country. This makes it seem like there isn’t enough food, so the prices go up.

In Abuja, Nasarawa State Governor, Mr. Abdullahi Sule, talked about how the government plans to solve this problem.

He said they might use the strategic grain reserve to help bring down food prices that are going up because of hoarding.

Governor Sule also said they will give more help to farmers. For example, if they usually give 13,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers, they might give 26,000 bags instead.

This is because farmers are having a hard time because of the high cost of living. The government wants to help them produce more food and not depend too much on other countries for food.

To stop hoarding, Governor Sule talked about talking with important people like the National Security Adviser and the President. They all want to make sure people don’t hoard food and punish those who do.

Governor Sule also talked about how Nasarawa State has been helping farmers for the past four and a half years. They will continue to help farmers so they can produce more food.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, also said Nasarawa State is good at farming. They grow lots of different crops like rice, legumes, and root crops.

He also said the government will help farmers more during the dry season. They have even built a solar cell production plant to help farmers use solar power for farming machines and irrigation.

Governor Sule, who used to work in engineering, is encouraged to lead these projects to help farmers because he understands how these technologies work.
