Nigerian Correctional Service confirms abduction of assistant controller in Niger State

—

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has confirmed the disturbing news of the abduction of Assistant Controller Abdulrahman Ibrahim Gelele in Niger State.
Gelele, who served within the Niger State command of the service, was reportedly taken by unknown assailants while traveling along the Minna-Ilorin Road on April 17, 2024.
Reports indicate that the abductors initially reached out to both Gelele’s family and the NCS command in Minna, establishing contact.
However, communications were abruptly severed thereafter, leaving authorities and loved ones anxious and uncertain about his well-being.
In an official statement released on Friday, Mohammed Isa, the Comptroller of the NCS in Niger State, confirmed Gelele’s abduction.
The statement, issued through the command’s spokesperson, Rabiu Mohammed Shuaibu, expressed deep concern and solicited prayers for Gelele’s safe release and liberation from captivity.
This unfortunate incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing regions like Niger State and the broader Nigerian landscape.
It highlights the vulnerability of individuals, even those serving in official capacities, to the menace of kidnapping and violence on the nation’s roads.
The NCS, along with law enforcement agencies, continues to grapple with the task of ensuring the safety and security of citizens and residents across the country.
Such incidents serve as stark reminders of the urgent need for concerted efforts to address underlying issues contributing to insecurity and lawlessness.
According to an NCS spokesperson, “As the search for Gelele intensifies, the thoughts and prayers of the community are with him and his family during this distressing time.”
