NAFDAC seizes expired Maggi cubes valued at N4.5 million in sokoto

—

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) recently informed the public about its action in Sokoto, where it seized a total of 24 cartons containing expired Maggie cubes.

The confiscated items were estimated to be worth N4.5 million.

Mr. Garba Adamu, the NAFDAC Coordinator in the state, disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that the agency’s patrol team carried out the seizure, leading to the apprehension and appropriate sanctioning of the owner.

Adamu highlighted a concerning trend where some traders exploit the lack of scrutiny regarding product levels and expiry dates, allowing them to introduce expired or nearly expired goods into markets.

He expressed that certain individuals engage in the practice of dumping such products in markets in Sokoto and nearby areas, while others distribute them to border markets and rural regions for consumption.

The coordinator issued a stern warning to traders, advising them against selling adulterated, counterfeit, unregistered, or expired goods to the public.

He emphasized that NAFDAC remains committed to enforcing regulations consistently.

Adamu urged Nigerians to consistently check the NAFDAC registration levels, manufacturing details, and expiry dates of items before using them to ensure their safety.

He acknowledged and commended the collaborative efforts of sister agencies, law enforcement agencies, traders’ associations, as well as individuals and groups for their support in assisting NAFDAC in safeguarding public health.
