A man identified as Alex, who is believed to be both a ritualist and an internet fraudster, commonly referred to as a “Yahoo Boy,” was apprehended while attempting to kill a young woman for ritual purposes.
The woman, identified as Olivia, had arranged to meet Alex for a paid sexual encounter, commonly referred to as “hook-up.”
The disturbing event took place at a hotel located in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja. According to reports, hotel staff intervened after hearing Olivia’s desperate screams coming from one of the rooms.
Upon entering the room, they found her in a horrifying state completely naked, her hands and legs bound with cello tape, and her mouth sealed shut. It was clear that she was being held against her will.
The quick response from the hotel workers led to Olivia’s rescue, preventing what appeared to be an imminent attempt on her life.
Alex, the suspect, was reportedly in the process of carrying out the ritual when the staff intervened.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, issued a statement on behalf of the FCT Police Command regarding the incident, on Friday.
She confirmed that the police were aware of a video that had been circulating online, showing a lady who had been criminally confined at Top View Hotel in Wuse on September 17, 2024.
The confinement was allegedly carried out by a man involved in internet fraud, with the intent to use her for a money ritual.
SP Adeh further explained that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) had taken the suspect, Alex, into custody.
However, as of the time of the statement, the NSCDC had not yet handed Alex over to the police for further investigation.
“The FCT Police Command is awaiting the transfer of all involved parties from the NSCDC to allow for a diligent and discreet investigation,” Adeh stated. “Further developments regarding the case will be communicated in due course.”
This shocking incident has sparked outrage in the community and raised concerns about the increasing cases of ritual killings and internet fraud in the country. Many are now calling for stricter measures to combat these growing criminal activities.
