Fix Hardship or Lose Our Votes, Northern Youths Warn Tinubu

A coalition of youth groups from the seven states of the North-West, operating under the aegis of the North West Youth Unity Forum (NWUF), has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action to address insecurity and economic hardship, warning that the region would not give “blank cheque support” to his 2027 re-election bid if the challenges persist.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Chairman and Convener of the Forum, Hon. Murtala Ishaka Jangebe, said many Nigerians, particularly those in Northern Nigeria, were facing severe economic hardship and would only support political candidates who demonstrate genuine commitment to addressing their needs.
The Forum identified the removal of fuel subsidy as one of the major factors contributing to rising costs of living, saying the policy had triggered a chain reaction that had made life increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens.
The group called on the Federal Government to introduce necessary interventions aimed at reducing the cost of living and easing the economic burden on residents of the North-West and other parts of the country.
On insecurity, the youth coalition urged the Tinubu administration to take “immediate, serious and decisive” action to end persistent killings, banditry, kidnappings and other security challenges affecting Northern Nigeria.
“The lives and security of Nigerian citizens must remain a top priority,” the Forum said.
The group also warned that political visits and campaign promises without tangible improvements in the lives of the people would no longer be acceptable to Northerners.
According to the Forum, the Federal Government must address hunger, hardship and insecurity before expecting the people of the North to support President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
“Before asking Northerners to support President Tinubu again in 2027, address the hunger, address the hardship, address the insecurity, and protect the lives of the people,” the group declared.
