Lawmaker Ukodhiko Aims To Reshape Nigeria’s Healthcare

The House of Representatives has adopted the report on the proposed amendment to the University Teaching Hospitals (Reconstitution of Boards, etc.) Act No. 10, 1985.

The bill, sponsored by Jonathan Ajirioghene Ukodhiko, who represents Isoko Federal Constituency, aims to reshape Nigeria’s healthcare and education landscape by including the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Erawha-Owhe, in Delta State.

A plenary session by Amos Gwamna, chairman of the House Committee on Health Institutions, the bill seeks to integrate the proposed teaching hospital into the framework of federal university teaching hospitals across the country. This strategic inclusion is poised to bridge gaps in healthcare delivery and provide a much-needed boost to the oil-rich Isoko Nation.

Speaking after the session, Ukodhiko expressed confidence in the bill’s journey, describing it as a historic milestone for Isoko Federal Constituency.

“A huge history is about to be made in Isoko Nation. This bill’s enactment will establish the first-ever federal institution in our constituency, significantly improving healthcare delivery while catalyzing educational and economic development,” Ukodhiko said.

The proposed Federal University Teaching Hospital, Erawha-Owhe, is envisioned as a hub for medical excellence, promising to attract top talent, essential resources, and innovative solutions to tackle pressing healthcare challenges in the region.

Observers and constituents have lauded this legislative push as a bold step toward equitable distribution of federal resources. They see it as a game-changer for Delta State, ushering in growth, opportunity, and federal presence in the Isoko community.
