Lassa fever: Families of accident victims demand compensation

—

The families of three senior health workers attached to the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BSPHCDA) who died in a ghastly motor accident recently have sought for financial support from the state government.

The health workers who died in March this year while on their way to Toro local government area of the state to attend to patients who contracted Lassa fever, include: Mustapha Danladi Galadima, Sule Galadima and Auwal Garba

It would be recalled that there was an outbreak of Lassa fever in the local government in recent times which led to the death of several people including the district head of the area; 39 persons were reportedly killed by Lassa fever in the state earlier in the year.

According to one of the relatives of the deceased, name withheld, the three health workers were assigned by the agency to visit the local government adding that on their way, their vehicle collided with a trailer as a result of which the health staff and their driver lost their lives.

He appealed to the state government to hasten the payment of their gratuities to their families even as he also called on them to sponsor the education of the deceased’s’ children since they died while discharging their duties.
