Kebbi State Governor Urges Reform in Federal Allocation Distribution

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has advocated for a revision in the distribution of funds across Nigeria.

He proposed that states should receive a larger share of the funds compared to the federal government, emphasizing that this adjustment would promote equity and fairness for all citizens.

During an interview in Abuja, Governor Idris expressed his concerns about the current allocation system, stating that the federal government receives an excessive portion in contrast to the states. His objective is to ensure that funds are directed to areas where they are most required.

He also recommended the redistribution of funds based on the premise that governors and local leaders, being directly involved with the populace, should receive increased financial resources to enhance their effectiveness in serving the community.

His proposal aims to reform the allocation of funds to empower states and local governments to more effectively address the needs of their constituents.

“When you look at it, the states and local governments are the closest to the people and most of the challenges faced directly by citizens are handled by the states and local governments“.

“I believe that the federal government has fewer responsibilities in terms of direct interaction with Nigerians. Governors and local government chairmen deal directly with the people and that is a huge burden on them”.

“Our revenues should be shared in such a way that state and local governments that often have direct interactions with the Nigerian people should collect a higher percentage to meet their yearnings and aspirations”.
