Kanayo O. Kanayo Questions Heavy Security in South-East Nigeria

Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has raised an important question about the excessive military and police presence in Nigeria’s South-East.

In a recent Instagram video, he voiced his concerns about the treatment faced by travelers in the region.

Kanayo shared his experience of traveling from Ibadan to Lagos, a journey that took him just an hour. He noted, “I left Felele Olorunsogo in Ibadan at 7:15 this morning and arrived in Lagos by 8:15. Throughout the 80-kilometer distance, I didn’t encounter a single police or army checkpoint.”

He then highlighted the stark contrast with the South-East, saying, “Why is the South-East so heavily militarized? You can’t travel 200 kilometers without hitting multiple checkpoints.”

The actor emphasized the humiliation and delays people face in the region, especially on routes like Enugu to Onitsha. He described situations where passengers are forced to get off vehicles with their hands raised, questioning why such harsh measures are in place.

Kanayo ended his message with a poignant question: “Is the South-East still part of Nigeria? Do our representatives even know the condition of our federal roads?”

His call for attention shines a spotlight on a pressing issue, urging both citizens and leaders to rethink the heavy security presence in the region.
