The immediate past Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu has averred that it is “immaterial” for President Bola Tinubu to address the Nigerian Youth who are currently protesting against bad governance across the country.
Osita, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), made the remark today while appearing on the Arise Television programme tagged The Morning Show.
In the programme, which was monitored by The News Chronicle, Osita admitted that there is hunger in Nigeria. He, however, while affirming that the constitution guarantees the right to freedom of association and expression, quipped that protest was not panacea to the hardship.
In the session which centered on “if there is bad governance in Nigeria,” Osita was asked whether the protest would have been averted if the President had addressed the nation. Responding, he noted that it was immaterial for Tinubu to do so, stating that he has aides who are his mouthpiece.
As of the time of filing this report, TNC gathered that protests were ongoing in different parts of the country including the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Bayelsa, Kano but to mention a few.
The protest, tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria, is expected to run from August 1 to August 10.
Among others, the protesters are demanding an end to bad governance, reversal of the fuel subsidy removal, tackling of inflation, rejig of the electoral system and cutting cost of governance.
