Suspected Fake Police Officer Arrested With Uniforms, N300,000 in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Adamu Musa, a resident of Kureken Sani, for allegedly impersonating a senior police officer and defrauding members of the public.
The suspect was arrested on September 1, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., following a report and intelligence received by officers attached to the Panshekara Police Division.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday night by the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Musa allegedly presented himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and claimed to have connections that could help people secure recruitment opportunities into the Nigeria Police Force or obtain transfers to preferred locations.
The police said the suspect allegedly used edited photographs and AI-generated images showing him alongside senior police officers to make his claims appear credible.
He allegedly used the names and photographs of senior police officers to deceive victims and collect money from them under the guise of helping them secure police jobs or facilitate transfers.
During a search of his residence, police reportedly recovered one police uniform, two pairs of black shoes, one camouflage outfit, one blue police uniform shirt and N300,000 in cash.
The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
The Kano State Police Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and beware of fraudsters impersonating security personnel, particularly those using photo-editing technology and artificial intelligence to create fake images for fraudulent purposes.
