The recent inaugural Lagos Leadership Summit sparked renewed enthusiasm and a fresh perspective on shaping the nation’s future. Hosted by the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA), the event facilitated meaningful exchanges between the established and emerging generations.
Through a series of debates, speeches, and panel discussions, participants explored the readiness of the youth in mental, emotional, and physical capacities to assume leadership roles.
The sessions also examined the significant impact that young leaders have made in their current roles, inspiring further transformation.
Throughout the event, themed “Leadership and Nigeria’s Future,” participants at Konga Place in Lekki, alongside a substantial online audience, engaged in lively debates and panels. These discussions not only assessed the preparedness of youths to assume leadership roles but also highlighted the transformative impact of young leaders currently in positions of power.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu shared insights from his journey into public service at age 37, emphasizing the summit’s role in equipping young people with the skills to excel in leadership positions. “This summit is about transforming your energy, creativity, and knowledge into leadership action,” he stated, underscoring the academy’s mission to cultivate a proactive and skilled youth leadership.
Former Minister for Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, spoke on “Ethical Leadership and its Impact on Nation Building,” advocating for integrity in governance and the importance of enduring the rigors of leadership development.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, addressed the shifting dynamics of community engagement and the critical role of technology in enhancing collective action within communities. He stressed the need to return to a communal engagement model that supports the collective agenda.
Also contributing to the dialogue was Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, who encouraged embracing technological advancements to stay ahead in the evolving leadership landscape, particularly with the ongoing Industrial Revolution.
Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, LJLA Executive Secretary, outlined the summit’s objectives, highlighting the necessity for leaders who are visionary, adaptable, and capable of achieving tangible results.
The summit also featured contributions from various dignitaries, including the Minister of State for Youth, Ayodele Olawande, and other key figures in government and innovation sectors, all advocating for a united and progressive approach to nurturing the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
