Immorality: Nigerians’ Struggle with Hypocrisy Amidst Unyielding Reality

By: Abdullateef  Abdullahi

Nigerians grapple with a stark paradox: the celebration of sexual misconduct while relegating moral conduct and educational values. This societal incongruity is glaring upon observation.

In this nation, a disconcerting trend emerges where individuals garner accolades for their involvement in the apex of immorality, exemplified by shameless exposure on platforms like Big Brother Naija, yielding substantial financial rewards. Conversely, the best common law graduating student of the University of Ilorin receives a meager 10k, highlighting a profound imbalance.

A discerning analysis of our societal landscape unveils a distressing truth – humanity’s face value has diminished. Morals and ethics have deteriorated, with immorality paradoxically becoming a fashionable norm. Despite an abundance of wealth, our priorities seem skewed, directing recognition towards unworthy pursuits.

As once said by Herbert Spencer, “ Government is essentially immoral.” Our government is not showing more concern to our countrymen. Our country takes a disheartening trajectory as success stories emerge detached from academic achievements. The promised rewards for obedience seem elusive, as reality challenges the principles we were taught.

The desire to succeed within ethical boundaries clashes with a disconcerting reality where those who flout the rules often emerge victorious. The societal shift towards valuing madness over intellect is palpable, where promiscuity is rewarded, and piety attracts mockery. This is the disconcerting milieu we navigate, where all is not well, yet seemingly accepted.

In essence, our society now venerates a new normal, relegating ancient moral etiquette – once the bedrock of proper conduct – to the sidelines. The pervasive hypocrisy in Nigeria has cast hard work as a futile endeavor, while embracing evolving obscenities as the norm.”

The nation’s beauty seems obscured, as the focus shifts from patriotism to prioritizing immortality over moral responsibility. The current situation in Nigeria raises concerns, casting doubt on the prospects of a promising nation future. And the pervasive issues offer little optimism for achieving a sustainable and positive trajectory.
