We’ve Been Shortchanged for Too Long—Okonkwo Backs Creation of New South-East State

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has applauded the House of Representatives for considering the creation of an additional state in the South-East region.

Speaking in an interview with Arise News on Monday, monitored by The News Chronicle, Okonkwo said the move was long overdue, stressing that viability and fairness, not mere political sentiment or consumption should guide state creation.

“We are talking about fairness. The South-East has only five states, while other regions have six or even seven,” he noted, urging stakeholders in the region to seize the opportunity to strengthen unity and advance their collective interest.

On his party’s prospects, the actor-turned-politician declared that the ADC was gaining strong momentum nationwide despite attempts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to stifle opposition voices.

“ADC is going to form the next government. APC will lose the elections. We are strategizing, ADC is on fire,” Okonkwo asserted.
