Former Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Dr. Robinson Ewor, has alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara reached a political agreement with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, which included conceding control of key structures in the state and abandoning a second-term ambition.
Ewor made the claims during an interview on ARISE News monitored by the News chronicle while reacting to the political situation in Rivers State, particularly Governor Fubara’s decision to align with the Wike-backed coalition that endorsed the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda.
According to him, Fubara’s decision to support Wike’s camp reflected the outcome of negotiations held between the governor and the former Rivers governor.
“What has happened in Rivers State today is the result of the decision Governor Fubara took,” Ewor said.
He alleged that as part of the negotiations, Fubara handed over the political leadership of the state’s 23 local government areas, as well as control of agencies and parastatals, to Wike.
Ewor further alleged that the agreement also required Fubara to forgo a second-term bid and make changes within his administration.
“He also agreed not to run for a second term as governor. Other agreements included the removal of the Chief of Staff and the Secretary to the State Government,” he said.
According to the former PDP chairman, Fubara failed to brief his supporters after the talks, leaving many of them unaware of the details of the agreement.
“His followers and supporters expected him to return home and explain the outcome of the negotiations, but he never did. He kept pretending, and he never disclosed what led to the crisis between him and the State House,” Ewor said.
He accused the governor of lacking transparency, insisting that Fubara had “betrayed the people of Rivers State” by failing to openly communicate the terms of the alleged political settlement.
Ewor also claimed that Fubara effectively surrendered to what he described as the “Rainbow Coalition” during the negotiations, adding that the governor’s alignment with the coalition was driven by political expediency.
Responding to a question from ARISE News anchor Rufai Oseni, who referenced an earlier interview on Symphony TV in which Ewor had alleged that Wike was “intoxicated with the money he stole,” the former PDP chairman distanced himself from the remark.
When asked whether he had evidence to support the allegation, Ewor replied: “Perception is different from reality. What I know now is different from what I knew then.”
He added that the information available to him at the time differed from what subsequently emerged.
“The facts that were presented to us then are not the same as what we have now, and I have apologised to the minister,” he said.
Ewor concluded by stating that the only political benefit Fubara would gained is joining the Rainbow Coalition which Ewor described as “the moving train.”
