If you were an observant, duty-bound citizen and a concerned cartoonist,
would they call you an alarmist or an irreverent, relevant, valiant artist?
Loosely speaking, say, you had the wits and skills of a storyboard artist,
a poet, a storyteller, a comic scripter, or a courageous gag cartoonist—
and you were a local patient being treated by two medical doctors—
one black and the other white (you don’t judge individuals based on their race,
color or country but on character or capacity, humanity in its glory, you embrace!),
and swiftly a vigilante group storms into the ward, knobkerries and whistles blazing;
and asks for the ID of the black surgeon. It turns out that the doctor is from the DRC.
And so, the leaders of the mob grill him until the other medic approaches them and yaps,
“This is 2026, cool down. Get a life! What’s this harassment about? This sick witch-hunt?
If this is about my colleague’s foreignness, I’m also British. Deal with it. Arrest me, too.
I came here two years ago. You didn’t even ask for my ID, is it not because of my race?
For your information, he’s been saving lives here for the past ten years. He’s African,
qualified, competent, documented and working here legally. What’s your problem?”
And then you hear one of the lamest and (mentally) laziest responses ever known
to mankind from one mob star. “He’s taking our job!” Wow. What a plausible expose!
This is more serious than satire. It’s dire. Bias must expire for the human race to thrive.
Please, poet, pen an apt, pregnant poem; storyteller, tell a sparkling story; cartoonist,
create some comic commentary or caricatures. Pencil artist, draw a delicacy of drama.
Let us experience the vividness and vivacity of your visuals. The crime of being a foreigner.
The zeal and patriotism of the actors in your tagline. Let your punchline march and match!
