Ex-Rivers PDP Chairman Reveals Fubara’s Secret Deal With Wike After Emergency Rule

Former Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Robinson Ewor, has alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara effectively surrendered political control of the state to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following the declaration of emergency rule.

Ewor made the claim on Thursday while speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show monitored by The News Chronicle, in reaction to Fubara’s endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Recall that Governor Fubara on Wednesday publicly declared support for the APC candidate, Kingsley Chinda.

Reacting to the development, Ewor said the governor’s endorsement merely confirmed what had already become evident since the emergency rule.

“Everyone knows that from the period of the emergency rule, Fubara had already handed over the state to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike,” he said.

“It is not news that he said it yesterday because, as far as I know, he had already given up since the emergency rule last year.”

Ewor further alleged that during negotiations following the declaration of emergency rule, Fubara ceded control of the state’s 23 local government councils to Wike.

“During the declaration of the state of emergency, Fubara entered into negotiations with the minister’s team. During those negotiations, he handed over the leadership of the 23 local governments to the FCT Minister,” he alleged.

According to him, Fubara failed to brief his supporters on the outcome of the negotiations after returning from the talks.

“When he came back, we expected him to gather his supporters and explain the situation and the agreements reached. Instead, he never did that and continued pretending,” Ewor said.

Ewor’s claims have not been independently verified, and Governor Fubara has not publicly responded to the allegations.
