Gunmen have launched a deadly midnight attack on Furyam Takzul community in Kantana Ward, Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing two residents and abducting five others, including women and children.
The assault, which occurred at about 12:05 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2026, threw the quiet rural settlement into chaos, forcing terrified residents to flee into surrounding bushes for safety.
Sources say the attackers arrived in large numbers, firing sporadically as they advanced through the community. The gunmen reportedly operated with little resistance for several minutes before whisking away five residents to an unknown location.
Confirming the incident, the Youth Leader of Furyam Takzul, Haruna Khalid, described the attack as devastating, saying it left the community in shock and deep trauma.
He said two people were killed during the invasion, while five others were abducted in the process.
According to him, the attackers struck without warning, unleashing gunfire that sent residents into panic and confusion, with many still fearful of possible further attacks.
Khalid called on security agencies to intensify search-and-rescue operations for the abducted victims and strengthen security presence across vulnerable communities in Kanam Local Government Area.
