Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with a tactical team, have killed more than 21 Boko Haram terrorists and destroyed a terrorist camp during a joint raid in the Kopre Mountain general area of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The operation, conducted between the early hours of August 26 and 27, followed credible intelligence on the presence of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists operating in the rugged area.
Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
Goni said the joint force comprising the Office of the National Security Adviser Tactical Team and newly inducted troops of 226 Battalion, deployed to Sector 4, Adamawa State, moved into the area under the cover of darkness at about 1:30 a.m. before launching a precision assault on the terrorist enclave.
According to him, the troops navigated the difficult terrain, penetrated the camp and engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters.
“Following fierce engagements, over 21 terrorists were neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
The operation was reportedly part of intensified efforts to locate and rescue victims abducted by terrorists, including residents of Mussa community who were kidnapped in May 2026 and schoolchildren abducted from Lassa in June.
Following the assault, the troops took control of the area, dismantled the terrorist camp and destroyed its logistics infrastructure, further weakening the terrorists’ operational capacity in the region.
Several weapons and ammunition were also recovered, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines and a substantial quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The troops additionally destroyed motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which the military said were believed to have been used for terrorist logistics and mobility.
The military described the operation as a significant success, citing the troops’ intelligence-driven approach, tactical proficiency and ability to operate in difficult terrain.
It said the successful raid demonstrated the joint force’s capacity to penetrate terrorist enclaves, disrupt their logistics and deny them freedom of movement across the theatre.
The Military High Command commended the ONSA Tactical Team and Operation HADIN KAI troops for their gallantry, professionalism and coordination during the operation.
The military also reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations aimed at dismantling terrorist strongholds, degrading their fighting capabilities and rescuing abducted persons.
It assured residents of the North-East that operations would continue until all abducted persons are located and rescued, while efforts are sustained to restore lasting peace and security across the region.
