The Ardova Plc–Diadem Energy consortium has announced plans to expand Nigeria’s gas infrastructure by establishing 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling sites across the country within 24 months.
Chairman of Diadem Group, Dr George Eluwa, and Chairman of Ardova Plc, Dr Abdul-Wasiu Sowami, disclosed this in a joint statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.
The development follows the consortium’s agreement to acquire Powergas, one of Africa’s largest CNG producers and virtual pipeline distributors, from Africa Infrastructure Fund I (AIF I).
According to the statement, Ardova, a Nigerian integrated energy and infrastructure company, will deploy CNG infrastructure across its nationwide retail network.
The consortium said the initiative would expand access to CNG for commercial fleets and motorists while supporting Nigeria’s drive to increase domestic gas utilisation.
“The Ardova–Diadem consortium intends to expand Powergas’ compression capacity across viable gas-producing corridors, creating firm offtake for associated and non-associated gas, supporting flare reduction and unlocking further investment across the gas value chain,” the statement said.
The acquisition, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, will combine Powergas’ gas-sourcing relationships, compression infrastructure and industrial customer base with Diadem’s virtual pipeline logistics.
The consortium will also leverage Ardova’s retail, logistics and distribution network to achieve the 100-site target, with plans to expand the platform into the wider West African market.
Eluwa expressed confidence that the acquisition and combined technical expertise of the partners would enable the consortium to reach more customers across Nigeria.
“Having worked closely with Powergas as its virtual-pipeline logistics partner, we have seen first-hand the transformative potential of taking natural gas beyond the conventional pipeline network,” he said.
He added that the consortium would combine Powergas’ compression capabilities, Diadem’s logistics and Ardova’s nationwide network to deliver cleaner and more affordable energy to industries, fleets and communities.

Sowami said Nigeria’s next phase of energy development would be driven by gas delivered at scale across the country.
He said the partnership would connect the country’s gas resources to the industrial, power and transportation sectors, while supporting the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV) and the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas programme.
The Managing Director of Ardova Plc, Abiola Babatunde-Ojo, said the acquisition would provide the infrastructure, reach and capabilities needed to deliver tangible benefits to customers nationwide.
“Our focus now is execution: expanding compression capacity, bringing CNG into our retail network and connecting more industries and fleets to a reliable domestic energy source,” he said.
Meanwhile, Powergas Vice-Chairman, Pulak Sen, described the combination of Powergas’ compression infrastructure and Ardova’s national reach as a strong fit capable of expanding into new markets and supporting Nigeria’s Auto-Gas vision.
