Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, along with support from the federal government and partners, took steps on Saturday, January 21, 2024, to address insurgency sustainably by reopening communities and resettling internally displaced persons (IDPs). The focus was on Logumani Community in the Ngala local government area.
During the reopening ceremony, the governor distributed essential items to the five hundred households that were resettled.
Each household received a two-bedroom bungalow, a bag of rice and maize, a water pump, a bull, a cow, a shadda (a traditional dress), a blanket, and fifty thousand naira for males and twenty thousand naira for females. Additionally, females were provided with wrappers and other household materials.
Governor Zulum emphasized that this resettlement initiative aligns with international best practices. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the federal government for supporting the drive.
Acknowledging the generosity of European countries, especially Germany and the UK, he thanked them for contributing to regional stability.
Addressing the resettled community, the governor urged them not to sell the items provided and emphasized the importance of cooperation with the military to maintain peace in the area.
Notable attendees at the event included Senator Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan, representing Borno Central, Emir of Dikwa Shehu Umar Abba Elkanemi, members of the House of Representatives, House of Assembly, and members of the Borno state executive council.
Governor Zulum also visited Marte to discuss plans for relocating the Garadai and Ala Communities.
During a stopover in New Marte, he commended the military for their role in restoring peace to Area Three after the re-establishment of Marte.
The governor informed the military of the people’s decision to relocate back to their ancestral home and conducted an on-the-spot assessment for necessary arrangements.
In discussions with the military in Marte, Governor Zulum shared decisions to allow daily commuting between Marte and Dikwa, along with the reopening of the Marte to Monguno road.
To boost morale, he presented the soldiers with two hundred bags of rice and twenty thousand naira each.
