“Forces are seeking to silence me in this country” – Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti, the renowned afrobeat artist nominated for a Grammy, recently revealed in a heartfelt video shared on his Instagram page that he is living under the shadow of threats to his life. He spoke out against unidentified individuals whom he believes are intent on silencing him for speaking out against what he perceives as societal injustices.

Expressing his dismay and frustration, Kuti disclosed that he has been entangled in numerous legal battles and faced numerous police summons over the years. He described feeling as though he is fighting multiple clandestine battles on his own, without adequate support.

In his impassioned message, Kuti declared, “Today, I will unveil the truth. There are forces at work seeking to silence me in this country. I am waging countless battles alone. I have lost track of the baseless court cases and incessant police interrogations I have endured simply for speaking my truth. Merely advocating for what is right, I find myself continually under scrutiny and threat.”

Kuti’s narrative underscores the challenges faced by individuals who dare to speak out against perceived injustices and corruption. He lamented the concerted efforts to tarnish his reputation and undermine his voice, emphasizing the personal toll such attacks have taken on him.

He concluded his poignant message by drawing parallels to historical struggles, asserting, “They have been silencing truth-tellers since ancient times.” This statement underscores Kuti’s belief that his plight is part of a broader pattern of suppression faced by those who seek to challenge the status quo.
