In a bold move that could reshape the search engine landscape, OpenAI has announced a prototype of its new search engine, SearchGPT

This innovative tool promised to deliver users fast and timely answers, coupled with clear and relevant sources, enhancing the overall search experience.

SearchGPT is designed to provide a more natural and intuitive way of searching, akin to having a conversation.

This development aims to integrate seamlessly with OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, potentially altering how users interact with search engines.

The announcement has stirred significant concern among Alphabet investors, who have been wary of OpenAI’s growing influence since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022.

Following the news, Alphabet’s stock experienced a notable decline, dropping over 3% to $167.28, while the Nasdaq saw a decrease of less than 1%.

In an attempt to counter OpenAI’s advancements, Google introduced AI Overview in May.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, hailed this as the most significant change in search functionality in the past 25 years.

Despite these efforts, the emergence of SearchGPT signifies a substantial challenge to Google’s long-standing dominance in the search engine market.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed optimism about the potential of SearchGPT to revolutionize search, emphasizing the company’s commitment to enhancing search functionality and user experience.
