Fisherman in Kebbi rewarded with car after capturing hippopotamus

During the ‘Yauri Annual Rigata and Cultural Festival 2024’ in Yauri town, the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, generously offered a live hippopotamus as a gift to Governor Dr. Nasir Idris of Kebbi State.

The hippopotamus was caught by a local fisherman named Alhaji Kasabo Gungun-Sakaci from Gungun-Sakaci village.

In appreciation of the fisherman’s bravery and the Emir’s gesture, Bello Ka’oje, the representative of Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, gifted the fisherman a new car.

The Emir emphasized the significance of the donation as a recognition of the governor’s impactful development efforts in the region.

He suggested that the governor could take the hippopotamus to a museum for upkeep so that it could serve as a recreational attraction for important visitors to the state.

Governor Nasir Idris expressed his gratitude for the gift and praised the festival for highlighting the unity fostered by the monarch among the people of the emirate.

He pledged his administration’s support to promote the Rigata cultural festival and announced plans to celebrate next year’s festival at its permanent site.

He said, “I assured that my administration will partner with the emirate to project the Rigata cultural festival; we will make sure that next year’s festival is celebrated in its permanent site.”

Additionally, he mentioned ongoing collaborations with the Ministers of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, and Education (State), Dr. Yusuf Tanko-Sununu, to construct the Malandu-Warrah road.

The governor also stated that construction of the Warrah township road had already begun and that a five-kilometer road in Argungu would be awarded for construction within two weeks.

During his speech, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reminded the people about the establishment of the Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC) by the Federal Government. This commission aims to ensure rapid development in the areas it serves.
