The government is planning to build a museum in Kanem to keep old things from Borno safe.Â
This museum will help people learn about the history and culture of Kanuri people. The Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, spoke about this during a meeting in Maiduguri.
She said the museum will have Kanuri things that show the old Kanem Borno Empire and Civilization.
Even though Borno has had some problems with safety, the people there still want to keep their culture safe.
The Minister asked the Borno state government to help make the museum. She wants people from everywhere to come and see the old Kanem Borno culture.
The Governor of Borno, Babagana Umara Zulum, said the state government will work with traditional leaders to keep the old Kanem Borno culture safe.
He wants young people to learn about their culture too. The Governor thinks that keeping the culture safe will also help bring back peace.
The Chief host of the meeting, Shehu Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al-Amin Elkanemi, said that Kanuri people from many countries have come to Maiduguri for the first Kanem Borno Cultural Summit.
He asked businessmen in Borno not to keep food and important things to themselves. He said it’s not right to make others suffer.
The Secretary to the State Government of Borno talked about how there have been safety problems in the Lake Chad Basin, but things are getting better. He hopes that with peace returning, Borno will become great again.
Former vice president, Babagana Kingibe, said the meeting is good for Kanuri people to show their culture to the world. He also asked for peace to come back to Borno and the Chad Basin area.
Zanna Bogma, from the Borno Emirate Concerned Citizens Forum, said the meeting is a good way to bring Kanuri people together and solve safety problems. He wants people to remember their Kanuri culture, religion, and pride.
Important people from many places came to the meeting, like the Vice President’s representative, the President of Chad, and leaders from other West African countries.
