BREAKING: Senate Suspends Senator Ningi for 3 Months

Following a heated debate on the floor of the 10th senate regarding an accusation of budget padding made by Senator Abdul Ningi, the senate has suspended the Bauchi senator for 3 months.

The senator had alluded that there’s an unaccounted 3 trillion Naira in the signed 2024 budget. He said that contrary the budget of about 25 trillion which passed through the house, that a budget of 28 trillion was actually the operational budget.

Meanwhile, the session degenerated further when Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe disclosed that some lawmakers in the red chambers were given N500 million as palliatives for their constituents while others got N200 million.

This revelation did not go down well with some senators. A situation that resulted into a state of commotion, with the Senate President Godswill Akpabio struggling to restore order in the hallowed chamber.

This suspension is coming after a strenuous debate in the house resolved that there was actually no foul play in the 2024 budget passed by the leadership of the senate and signed by the presidency. The house ashed Senator Ningi to apologise for diminishing the image of the senate and going against laid down law and order.

Though Senator Jimoh Ibrahim representing Ondo North prayed the house to suspend Ningi for 12 months, other senator pleaded for leniency and it was reduced to 3 months.
