Alpha-Jet Squadron Wins NAF Recruits’ 20km Cross-Country Race

—

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified the military training of its newly recruited personnel, as 816 trainees of Basic Military Training Course (BMTC) 46/2025 completed a six-day bush camp exercise at the NAF Base in Kaduna State.
The exercise, codenamed Exercise MUN FARA, was conducted between October 12 and 17, 2026, to test the physical endurance, tactical awareness and ability of the recruits to operate under challenging conditions.
The Air Force disclosed this in a statement shared on its official X account, noting that the exercise formed part of its efforts to prepare the trainees for demanding military operations.
Activities carried out during the exercise included day and night navigation, patrols, ambushes, attack drills and tent pitching.
According to the NAF, the activities were designed to assess the recruits’ understanding and practical application of basic military skills, as well as their ability to respond effectively to difficult operational situations.
The exercise concluded with a 20-kilometre cross-country competition, where Alpha-Jet Squadron emerged overall winner after completing the race in two hours, 33 minutes and seven seconds.
Recruit Mohammed U of MI-35 Squadron finished first in the male category, while Recruit Salihu SO of ATR-42 Squadron emerged winner in the female category.
Speaking at the conclusion of the exercise, the Commandant of the Military Training Centre, Air Commodore AO Akins, commended the trainees for demonstrating resilience, discipline and team spirit throughout the exercise.
Akins said the training provided an opportunity to evaluate their practical knowledge of essential military skills, including fieldcraft, weapon handling and map reading.
He explained that the exercise was part of the Air Force’s progressive training programme aimed at producing disciplined, confident and mission-ready personnel.
The NAF added that the recruits would proceed to their final bush camp exercise before completing their training and eventually commencing service in the Nigerian Air Force.
