Boko Haram attacks Chibok, set Houses ablaze in Borno State

Suspected terrorists believed to be associated with Boko Haram conducted an attack on the village of Chibok LGA in Borno State on Tuesday Night.

The assault, occurring at 7 pm, resulted in the tragic loss of two villagers’ lives and forced residents to flee in fear for their safety.

The attack instilled a deep sense of dread in Chibok’s Local Government Area headquarters, prompting villagers to seek refuge in nearby bushes as the assailants reportedly invaded homes, pillaging food items, and setting houses ablaze.

Witnesses described scenes of panic and fear as residents scrambled for cover in the adjacent bushes.

Many people remained in hiding, apprehensive of potential follow-up attacks. Pona, a witness to the incident, recounted that by noon on Wednesday, several villagers who sought refuge in the bush had not yet returned.

“We lost two lives who died of gunshots during the attack,” Pona stated.

The Borno State police confirmed the incident, reporting that a joint response from the military and local law enforcement successfully repelled the attack.

However, two villagers, identified as Mr. Badi (75) and Ngule (45), tragically lost their lives during the raid.

“The attack was repelled by the joint effort of the military and the police,” said ASP Nahum Daso, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer. “Unfortunately, two persons were killed; one of the deceased, named Mr. Badi, aged 75, and one Ngule, aged 45, died during the attack. But the situation has since returned to normal.”

Chibok and its surrounding communities have endured periodic attacks by Boko Haram terrorists, despite the widely publicized abduction of over 250 schoolgirls from Chibok secondary school in 2014.

Disturbingly, more than 80 of the abducted schoolgirls remain in the hands of the terrorists to this day.

Although over 160,000 insurgents and their family members have surrendered to troops at various locations in the North-East, the remnants of the terrorists still engaged in hostilities have resorted to looting food and non-food items across villages.

This desperate act aims to bolster their dwindling resources due to the countermeasures adopted by the Nigerian military, which has been effective in strangulating their economic base.
