Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, has restated his administration’s dedication to providing citizens with access to quality healthcare services at all levels, from primary to tertiary care.
The Governor made this pledge during the induction ceremony for the second group of MBBS graduates from the College of Medical Sciences, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi on Thursday.
Represented by the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, the Governor highlighted the state government’s efforts to improve the health sector to meet global standards.
“We have ensured that primary health facilities are accessible to people in all 323 political wards across the state,” he said. He also noted that substantial investments have been made at the secondary healthcare level, with general hospitals and the Specialist Hospital fully renovated and upgraded to ensure efficient service delivery.
While congratulating the new medical graduates, the Governor urged them to prioritize professionalism and integrity in their work, stressing that saving lives should always come before personal gain.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of ATBU, Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba, called the ceremony a proud moment for the university.
Speaking through the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor Sani Kunya, he described the event as proof of the university’s progress toward establishing a top-tier medical college.
“Today’s event shows how far we’ve come in building a medical college that we hope will become one of the best,” he said. He recalled the challenges faced in creating the college, particularly resistance from those who doubted the feasibility of a medical program at a technology-focused institution.
“Our resolve to address the shortage of doctors in the northeastern region and Nigeria as a whole kept the dream alive,” he added. “Today, that dream has become a reality.”
