The Bauchi State Ministry of Education has conducted the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) for more than 56,000 candidates.
Speaking to journalists on Friday after completing an inspection visit to various examination centers, the Deputy Director of Examinations, Ibrahim Labaran in the Ministry, expressed that this year’s examinations were a success and were conducted smoothly compared to previous years.
“I am impressed and satisfied with what I have seen in terms of the conduct of the examination.
“There were few problems, and everything went well, as you observed,” Labaran stated.
He further explained that the examination consisted of two parts: the Basic Islamic and the Basic Education Certificate Examinations.
“We inspected the Basic Education exams, which had very few students for the Basic Islamic exams, with only 2,000 candidates,” he said.
“There were 54,000 candidates for the BECE, bringing the total number of candidates to 56,000 across the state for 2024.”
Labaran attributed the success of the examinations to the enhanced education policy of the current administration under Governor Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, who has made the education sector a priority.
He noted that the inspection tour of the centers revealed that the candidates had a conducive environment to take their exams as scheduled, contributing to the smooth execution of the exams.
The Deputy Director emphasized that while the education policy in the state remains unchanged, the commitment of those managing education affairs has been instrumental in ensuring its success.
He also highlighted a significant improvement in the examination process saying that the Ministry now has its own printing press.
“This facilitated the printing of all question papers with ease, unlike previous years when we had to search around town for printing services,” Labaran noted.
He mentioned that in the past, printing examination papers was costly, but with the new printing press, this problem has been resolved, contributing to the overall success of the examination process.
